November 2021

Welcome to Issue #38 of Accelerating News!

Our winter issue brings you the latest developments in additive manufacturing and radiofrequency, news from different particle accelerator facilities and European projects, reports from events taking place in the past months.

For the future of particle physics research at the LHC, this issue reports on how the US High-Luminosity LHC Accelerator Upgrade Project is now set to begin series production of crab-cavities. It looks also at the development undertaken for the Future Circular Collider (FCC) with news on the prototyping of the final focus quadrupole.

European projects are getting news as well. Set to finish at the end of year, the EU-funded CompactLight project held the promise of designing more compact and cost-effective linac-based photon sources. For its part, I.FAST announced a world-first in the field of additive manufacturing for essential quadrupole components for linear accelerators from pure copper.

In this issue, we also announce the 5th FCC Physics workshop, to take place in Liverpool (7-11 February 2022) as well as I.FAST’s Challenge-Based Innovation programme (26 July - 4 August 2022).

I am honoured and humbled to become the next editor of Accelerating News and will do my best to continue the legacy of my predecessors. I look forward to the help of all the members of the editorial team to make the next issues a success. Happy reading!
