Welcome to Issue #42 of Accelerating News!

Advanced manufacturing techniques and new accelerators facilities processes have the potential to dramatically change particle accelerator in size, cost, efficiency and environmental impact.

Additive manufacturing is being explored to make accelerators more readily available to society. Reverse coating is being explored for the FCC for the fabrication of high quality seamless cavities. The use of tunable permanent magnets instead of resistive electromagnets is a way to reduce the energy consumption of accelerators.

Future facilities will allow for new science and new applications. EuPRAXIA, the first European project for a particle-driven plasma accelerator has announced new funding. CLIC is looking towards 2025 with the preparation of its project readiness report.

The potential of accelerators needs to be brought to the attention of the next generation of scientists and engineers, but also lawyers and entrepreneurs. A call to application to the « accelerators for the environment » student challenge has been launched this month. Students from universities across Europe and all background can apply until 28 February 2023. Also, the CERN Accelerator School has announced new dates for its 2023 courses.
